About these little countdowns
This prototype watches official Connect Transit Tan feeds. Scheduled passes combine the timetable and nearby stops along the route, even when no vehicle is nearby. They are labeled Scheduled and can change. Tracking-based estimates combine a fresh vehicle with feed stop times; those feed times may themselves include timetable values. All ranges are approximate and need owner field validation. “Bus approaching — get ready” is an early heads-up using verified upstream route progress plus a latency allowance. “Look outside!” is a separate closer stage, within roughly 350m along the route. Brief stops can preserve the stage while positions stay fresh; the countdown remains visible. Neither stage promises an exact pass time. Old cues expire automatically, and returning to the page requests a fresh snapshot. GPS delays, stops and detours can change what happens.
Stale or offline data never triggers a look-out cue. A saved Scheduled time can remain visible with service changes marked unconfirmed; expired saved times are not treated as upcoming. No nearby buses does not mean no service. Demo mode uses made-up buses. Official feeds are shared every 25 seconds plus download time, with slower retries when feeds fail. The visible page checks our cached status every 5 seconds without increasing upstream polling. Sound is optional: enable it with the button for a quiet recorded bus double honk once per close bus pass. Demo scenes are silent; Test honk plays only when pressed. Anonymous pass IDs expire after 48 hours, with at most 32 retained on this browser to prevent repeats after reloads. No microphone or notification permissions.
